2024-04-11 - Back Again

No need to guess who, it's me.

I'm back writing my blog again, something I truly did miss but either didn't have the time for or simply forgot as each wednesday rolled around. It's been nearly two whole months since I've last written here and, therefore, a lot has happened.

First of all, I've been growing a lot closer with some of my avian acquaintances (Tri, Zane, Irius, if you're reading this, hiii :>>>!!!). Talking to all of these fellows has been absolutely wonderful and I am glad to have each of them in my life. However, I've bonded the most deeply with Orion.

Orion is, without a doubt, one of the coolest people I've ever met. We have a lot of overlapping interests and hobbies, and those we do not share are still very interesting to the relatively uninterested party. He's been getting into web stuff more lately and he's recently started making a site of his own! Orion is a total sweetheart and never fails to make me smile. Every second spent talking to him is guaranteed to be a good and fulfilling one. His fursona is a phoenix who is as handsome and as adorable as the man himself. We've known each other for quite a while and we've only just started talking to one another regularly about a month ago. This has been one of the greatest months of my life, and it's all thanks to this incredible orange bird. I'll definitely be talking about him more in detail in the future. Definitely go check his stuff out.

2024-02-28 - Big News

Howdy, fellows! It's been a while. Let me fill you all in on what's happened these past few months.

First of all, happy 2024! It's been a pretty decent year for me so far and I hope things continue like this at the very least. I don't think I had any resolutions, other than just vague self-improvement. Needless to say I haven't made much progress.

Relating to what I said in the last post, chiyonet is now gone. Forever. This is now and will continue to be the only* place to find my uncut thoughts exposed for all the public to see. On the one hand, I'm sad to see what was certianly my favorite site on the entire World Wide Web die. On the other hand, it's nice to be able to focus on dumping my thoughts in one place without feeling like I'm abandoning the other.

I've got big plans. Plans large enough to be a blog post of its own, but I want to write about them today lest I don't feel like it later. I'm planning on opening canary.city to the public as a pubnix server. I've never done anything like this before, and there will be a lot of prep work involved in being able to make sure I can give shell access to people without too much trouble. However, it'll be worth it. I'm planning on this being my latest and greatest endeavor into building an online community.

Back when I left the Central Committee of the Avian International, I decided I was going to do something else. I'm not sure what I meant at the time, but this is going to be that thing. Back then, I said that the next thing would ideally be bigger and better, but that's only half-true. Of course I'd like canary.city pubnix to be even better than the Avintern, but I don't really want it to be bigger than that. There's a certain value in smaller communities that makes everything much more personal. I hope to embrace that wholeheartedly and cultivate a place where silly like-minded nerds can hang out and express themselves through the web and through Gemini, which brings me to my next topic.

I've set up a Gemini server using The Unsinkable Molly Brown, a server software written by solderpunk, creator and benevolent dictator of the Gemini protocol. I had some initial TLS certificate-related difficulties when setting it up, but once I got through that, I really started to enjoy using both it and Gemini itself. I have a capsulle there where you can read this as well!

First of all, I love gemtext. It's a wonderfully simple format that forces you to think only about content while leaving all the styling to the user's client. Secondly, I'm glad tilde page functionaly is built straight into Molly Brown, as that'll make it easy to give every canary.city user their own Gemini capsule. Browsing on Gemini is also a refreshing experience, as pages load quickly and essentially every site I've come across has been very cozy thanks to Lagrange's beautiful rendering of capsules. Even without that, gemtext still looks good in the terminal completely unrendered, so browsing geminispace without a GUI is still a pleasant experience.

That's all I have for today, I'm looking forward to writing here more (sorry about the big break) and generally spending more time on canary.city, hopefully with some of you soon enough! Goodnight.

2023-10-30 - New beginnings, old phones

Hello, readers! I figured I ought to start posting my longer stuff on here rather than over at chiyonet because I feel like I ought to use this place more often.

2024/03/02 - The Beginning

I've just started this world today, and I've made quite a bit of progress. Below you'll find everything significant I've done so far.

Here's the starter house I've built. It's your typical barebones 3x3 wooden shack, but it does its job. I've decided I won't build a larger house until I have enough resources to comfortably do so. Pictured atop the house is Juan, my horse. I was going to name him after my favorite instagram user Chester Stone, but his appearance in this photo led to me promising a friend of mine to stick with Juan.

I've had a lot of fun today, and it's been rather difficult to stop myself from continuing, but I want to pace myself in this as to not burn out on it too quickly. It's been a while since I've been able to legitimately enjoy Minecraft, and I want that feeling to persist more than anything. I'll try and keep you guys updated on this at least once a week.

2024/03/03 - Decent Progress

Hello again. I've not been playing actively as much today as I was yesterday, but I've still made a decent bit of progress (hence today's title). Here's all I've accomplished:

I've made some modifications to my storage building. I think the wood stairs look better than plain planks and give the structure a lot more depth.

My farm is providing resources well. I've made a second enclosure for chickens, although every egg I've thrown into there has proven to be a dud.

Dog update: there are three of them now!! I've decided to name the red one August and the yellow one June. Logically, their baby's name is July.

I've finally constructed another banner to match the one I have hanging off of my house, something which I realize now that I've never explained. I've decided that this will be my settlement's flag. I don't have a name for this place yet, but I'm sure one will come to me later down the line. Anyways, that other banner went to a shield instead of evening out the decoration on the front of my house. Cope and seethe >:>

Today I struck diamonds for the first time. I put three towards a pickaxe and set the rest aside for when I get around to making an enchanting table. The first thing I did with my new pickaxe was retrieve some obsidian from a nearby ruined nether portal as well as a shallow lava pond near my home. I constructed a functional nether portal, although my first trip to hell was rather brief, as there was a ghast immediately above where the portal generated.

I saw some more diamonds at the bottom of the cave I was exploring, but I ran out of torches and broke my sword. I'll have to remember to grab them next time I play.

This weekend has been rather productive, at least minecraft-wise. I've made a fair bit of progress in the past two days, and I can't wait to continue documenting this adventure here for you all.

minecraft log

On March 2, 2024, I decided to start my first (serious) singleplayer Minecraft world in quite some time. This is a documentation of my progression through this world. I write this mostly for my own sake, but I also invite anyone who is interested to take a peek and check out the world for themselves if they so choose.
